What Actually Happens When You Delete an eSIM

When you delete (remove/erase) an eSIM profile from your phone:

    1. The carrier profile is permanently removed from your device's eUICC chip
    2. Your connection to that carrier's network is terminated immediately
    3. Your phone number associated with that eSIM becomes disconnected
    4. Any remaining data/credit on that eSIM plan is still tied to your account (not lost, but inaccessible until reinstalled)
    5. The QR code you originally used usually cannot be reused

Can You Reinstall a Deleted eSIM?

    Travel/Prepaid eSIMs (like Teraroma)

Usually, you cannot reuse the same QR code. Most eSIM providers generate a one-time-use QR code. If you delete the eSIM, you'll need to:

    1. Contact the provider
    2. Request a new QR code (may or may not be free)
    3. Reinstall with the new code
    4. Any remaining data should still be available

Pro tip: If you still have data remaining, contact Teraroma support before deleting. We can help you manage your eSIM without losing your plan.

Carrier eSIMs (your main phone plan)

    Contact your carrier to:

    1. Get a new eSIM provisioned
    2. This is usually free and takes 15-30 minutes
    3. Your phone number and plan remain intact

    Apple eSIM Quick Transfer

If you delete an eSIM that was set up with Apple's eSIM Quick Transfer:

    1. Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM
    2. Your carrier may offer to re-download the profile
    3. This doesn't work with all carriers

When Should You Delete an eSIM?

    ✅ Yes, Delete It:

    • Used travel eSIM with no data left: No reason to keep an expired plan
    • Switching carriers permanently: Old carrier eSIM is no longer needed
    • Troubleshooting persistent issues: Sometimes removing and reinstalling fixes problems
    • Selling your phone: Remove all eSIM profiles before selling/giving away your device
    • Maximum eSIM slots reached: Need to remove old ones to add new ones (most phones store 8-10)

    ❌ Don't Delete It:

    • You still have data remaining: Keep it for future use or your return trip
    • You might need it again soon: eSIM profiles take up negligible space
    • You're troubleshooting: Try other fixes before deleting
    • You don't have the QR code saved: You may not be able to reinstall

    How to Delete an eSIM

    On iPhone

    1. Settings → Cellular
    2. Tap the eSIM line you want to remove
    3. Scroll down to Delete eSIM
    4. Tap Delete eSIM to confirm

    On Samsung

    1. Settings → Connections → SIM manager
    2. Tap the eSIM profile
    3. Tap Remove
    4. Confirm

    On Google Pixel

    1. Settings → Network & internet → SIMs
    2. Select the eSIM
    3. Tap Erase SIM
    4. Confirm

    What About Disabling vs. Deleting?

You don't have to delete an eSIM — you can just turn it off:

    • Profile stays on your phone but isn't active
    • No data is used, no charges incurred
    • You can re-enable it anytime
    • iPhone: Settings → Cellular → [eSIM] → Turn Off This Line
    • Android: Settings → SIM manager → Toggle off the eSIM

    Deleting (Permanent)

    • Profile is completely removed
    • Cannot be restored without a new QR code
    • Frees up an eSIM slot

Our recommendation: Disable first, delete later. There's no downside to keeping an inactive eSIM profile on your phone.

What If You Accidentally Deleted Your eSIM?

Don't panic. Here's what to do:

    For Travel eSIMs (Teraroma)

    1. Contact our support team immediately
    2. Provide your order number/email
    3. We'll issue a new QR code
    4. Reinstall the eSIM

    For Your Main Carrier

    1. Call your carrier's customer service
    2. Explain you accidentally deleted the eSIM
    3. They'll provision a new one (usually free)
    4. Re-download via QR code or carrier activation

    Important Note

Your phone number and plan are not lost when you delete an eSIM. The profile is removed from your device, but your account with the carrier remains active. You just need a new way to install the profile again.

    Preventing Accidental Deletion

    • Be careful in settings: Don't tap "Delete eSIM" unless you mean it
    • Save your QR codes: Screenshot and store them securely
    • Use labels: Name your eSIMs clearly so you don't delete the wrong one
    • Disable instead of delete: If you're not sure, just turn it off

    Summary

    | Action | Reversible? | Cost | |--------|-------------|------| | Disable eSIM | ✅ Yes, instantly | Free | | Delete eSIM | ⚠️ Need new QR code | May be free or paid | | Delete with data remaining | ⚠️ Data preserved on account | Free to request new QR | | Delete carrier eSIM | ✅ Carrier reprovisions | Usually free |

The golden rule: When in doubt, disable — don't delete.

    Frequently Asked Questions

You'll need a new QR code from your provider since the original usually can't be reused. Your account and any remaining data are typically preserved — you just need a new installation method. Contact your provider for a replacement.

No, your phone number is stored with your carrier, not on the eSIM chip. Deleting the eSIM just removes the profile from your device. Contact your carrier to get a new eSIM with the same number.

No. Disabling turns off the eSIM connection but keeps the profile on your phone — you can re-enable it anytime. Deleting permanently removes the profile and you'll need a new QR code to reinstall.

Yes, absolutely. Remove all eSIM profiles and do a factory reset before selling or giving away your phone. This protects your personal information and carrier credentials.
