Best eSIM for Europe in 2026: Plans for 31–41 Countries

Skip the per-country plans — a single regional eSIM gives you full LTE/5G from Lisbon to Helsinki for less than a Big Mac per day.

Travelers exploring a European city street

Europe is the easiest continent to buy an eSIM for and the hardest to overspend on — if you understand one thing: a single regional plan covers almost every country you'll visit, including the awkward outliers like Switzerland, the UK, Albania, and Iceland.

This guide explains exactly what coverage you get, what plan size to buy, and the handful of countries where you may want a separate eSIM.

    The Quick Answer

Teraroma sells five Europe plans, each with an exact country list:

Current prices on the 33-country plan:

    • 1GB: {{price:multi_33:1GB}}
    • 5GB / 30 days: {{price:multi_33:5GB}}
    • 10GB / 30 days: {{price:multi_33:10GB}}
    • Unlimited tiers available for heavy users
    • One plan, one ICCID, no manual switching as you cross borders

Why a Regional Plan Beats Per-Country Plans

If you're visiting 3+ European countries, the per-country math is brutal. A typical 14-day "Lisbon → Madrid → Barcelona → Rome → Athens" itinerary:

    | Approach | Cost | |---|---| | Five country eSIMs | $35–$50 | | One regional Europe eSIM (10GB, 33 countries) | {{price:multi_33:10GB}} | | Carrier roaming (Verizon TravelPass) | $140 | | Local SIM in each country | $80 + 5x airport visits |

Regional plans aren't just cheaper — they're seamless. Your phone connects to whichever local network has the best signal as you cross borders. No swapping. No new QR codes. No surprise gaps.

Which Carriers You'll Actually Be On

Teraroma's Europe plans use partner networks that vary by plan and country and can change over time — the exact operators are listed on each plan page. Typical national networks in each country include:

    • Spain: Orange, Vodafone, Movistar
    • Italy: TIM, Vodafone, Wind Tre
    • France: Orange, SFR, Bouygues
    • Germany: Telekom (T-Mobile), Vodafone, O2
    • UK: EE, Vodafone, O2, Three
    • Switzerland: Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt
    • Greece: Cosmote, Vodafone, Wind
    • Portugal: MEO, Vodafone, NOS
    • Netherlands: KPN, Vodafone, T-Mobile
    • Scandinavia (Sweden/Norway/Denmark/Finland): Telia, Telenor, Tele2

In practice, your phone selects the strongest signal automatically. You don't need to think about it.

    5G Across Europe

    5G is now widely deployed:

    • Western Europe (France, Germany, UK, Spain, Italy, Netherlands): dense urban 5G, often 200–500 Mbps
    • Nordics: excellent 5G in capitals + most secondary cities
    • Iberia (Spain, Portugal): full 5G in tourist zones
    • Central / Eastern Europe: rapidly improving; major cities (Prague, Warsaw, Budapest, Bucharest) have full 5G
    • Balkans: LTE-A in most cities; 5G in capitals
    • Rural Europe: dependable LTE; 5G is a bonus, not a guarantee

For typical travel (Maps, social, video calls, occasional streaming), LTE is more than sufficient. 5G is icing.

    Sizing Your Plan

Per-day data budgets in Europe lean a little higher than Asia — partly because you're navigating more (Google Maps for transit, walking directions, museum bookings), partly because content uploads are higher when you're somewhere photogenic.

    • City-break weekend (3 days): 2–3 GB
    • One-week multi-city tour: 5–8 GB
    • Two-week grand tour: 10–15 GB
    • Month-long Eurail trip: 20–30 GB or unlimited
    • Working remotely from European cafes: 30GB+ or unlimited

Europe plan options range from 1GB to 50GB.

EU "Roam Like At Home" — And Why It Doesn't Help You

If you have an EU mobile contract (e.g., a French Orange line), you get free roaming across the EU/EEA. Wonderful. But:

    • It doesn't apply to non-EU contracts — US, UK (post-Brexit), Australian, etc.
    • It doesn't cover Switzerland, the UK, or the Balkans
    • It has fair-use caps (typically 1–5GB then domestic-rate billing)

If you're not on an EU-issued line, a Teraroma Europe eSIM is dramatically simpler and cheaper than relying on a carrier's "international" add-on.

    Country-Specific Notes

    United Kingdom

Post-Brexit, the UK is sometimes excluded from "EU" plans. Teraroma's Europe plan includes the UK. Coverage on EE, Vodafone, and O2 is excellent; rural Wales/Scottish Highlands have predictable gaps.

    Switzerland

Notoriously expensive on most providers because Swiss MNOs charge premium wholesale rates. Teraroma's Europe plan includes Switzerland without surcharge.

    Iceland

Sparse population but reliable LTE around the Ring Road. Inland 4x4 routes may have dead zones — download offline maps before driving.

    Greek Islands

LTE on every inhabited island. Some smaller Cycladic islands (Folegandros, Sikinos) have lighter coverage at the far ends.

    Turkey

Coverage is excellent in Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya and Bodrum. Only two Teraroma Europe plans include Turkey: the 34-country Europe + Turkey plan and the 41-country Europe & Beyond plan. The 31, 33 and 35-country plans do not.

    France

France is included in every Europe plan except the 35-country plan.

    Russia / Belarus

Not included. If you're traveling there, you'd need a different plan; we currently do not offer Russian or Belarusian eSIMs.

    Activation Workflow

    1. Choose your plan on the Europe eSIM page
    2. Install the QR code on home Wi-Fi before flying
    3. Label the line "Europe"
    4. Leave it disabled until you land
    5. On landing in your first European country: enable the Europe line, disable Data Roaming on your home line
    6. Connects within 1–2 minutes

When you cross borders by train or car, the phone re-registers on the new country's network within seconds. No action needed from you.

    Common European Travel Pitfalls

Pitfall #1: Forgetting that long Eurail journeys cross multiple countries. Your eSIM handles it; just don't be surprised when the carrier name changes in your status bar.

Pitfall #2: Eurostar / Channel Tunnel briefly has no service in the middle. Pre-download anything you need before boarding.

Pitfall #3: Some Spanish and Italian rural areas (Andalusian villages, Tuscan hill towns) have LTE-only with weak signal. Cache offline Google Maps.

Pitfall #4: Schengen Area airport Wi-Fi is often time-limited or fenced behind a national carrier login. Your eSIM saves you from the captive-portal dance.

    FAQs

Does my Europe eSIM work in the UK after Brexit? Yes. Teraroma's Europe plan explicitly includes the UK.

Can I use my Europe eSIM on a cruise around the Mediterranean? Only while in port (your phone connects to a local land network). On the open sea, ships use satellite cellular billed separately by the ship's operator — your eSIM doesn't help.

Will my plan work in microstates like Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Andorra, Gibraltar? Gibraltar is listed on the 33 and 41-country plans; San Marino and Vatican City on the 35-country plan. No Europe plan includes Andorra — buy an Andorra eSIM for that leg.

Can I make voice calls from my Europe eSIM? Travel plans are typically data-only. Use WhatsApp / FaceTime / iMessage. For voice and SMS to local numbers, consider a virtual number.

Is the Europe plan throttled? Standard plans are full-speed up to the data cap, then stop. Unlimited plans have a daily fair-use cap before throttling — full terms are listed on the product page.
